How Mike Leach once nearly sent Oklahoma past Texas with a bogus play call card

As Oklahoma and Texas football descend upon the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas on Saturday for the Red River Showdown, it may be impossible for any gimmick to top the one that Mike Leach delivered as the Sooners' offensive coordinator 19 years ago.

As documented by ESPN's Jake Trotter on Wednesday, the often-rouge Leach, now the head coach at Washington State, went the extra mile in the 1999 Red River Showdown as Oklahoma sought to upend No. 23 Texas. How? By creating a fake play call script that he could only hope and pray the Longhorns would take the bait on.
