Four Longhorns named to FWAA 75th anniversary team

AUSTIN — Four Texas legends have been named to the Football Writers Association of America’s 75th anniversary All-America Team. But Longhorns fans might be more interested in who didn’t make the squad.

Linebacker Tommy Nobis (first team), defensive back Jerry Gray and punter Russell Erxleben (both second team) and offensive lineman Jerry Sisemore (third team) made the list, which was selected by an FWAA committee after taking nominations from writers across the nation.

But UT’s two Heisman Trophy winners — running backs Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams — didn’t make the cut. Neither did quarterback Vince Young, who in 2005 led UT to its first national championship in more than three decades.
