Football’s Sanders named John Mackey Award Tight End of the Week

Texas sophomore Ja’Tavion Sanders was previously selected to the preseason watch list.

NEW YORK – Texas sophomore Ja'Tavion Sanders was named the John Mackey Award Tight End of the Week for week five, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Sanders caught five passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns in the Longhorns' 38-20 victory over West Virginia on Saturday. His two receiving touchdowns were the most for a Texas tight end since D.J. Grant had three against UCLA in 2011. On the year, the Denton, Texas native has 20 receptions for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
