Thursday’s announcement from D1Baseball cemented Texas Longhorns true freshman Dylan Volantis’ status as a consensus All-American. The left-handed pitcher also received first-team All-American honors from the ABCA/Rawlings, Baseball America and the NCBWA.
“Volantis notched a 4-1 ledger with a 1.94 ERA and 12 saves over 51 innings. In league play, the 6-foot-6, 212-pound hurler led all pitchers in ERA (1.59), WHIP (0.85), B/AVG (.160) and saves. Volantis’ 11 saves in conference action are the most by an SEC freshman ever, breaking a 22-year-old record held by Ole Miss’ Steven Head. The NCBWA Freshman Pitcher of the Year and SEC Freshman Pitcher of the Year finished tied for 10th nationally in saves.
