Dallasite Scottie Scheffler solid in U.S. Open first round but even more solid in desire to return to Texas

ERIN, Wis. -- For the second straight U.S. Open first round, 6-foot-3 Dallasite Scottie Scheffler not only loomed above all the amateurs, but stood mighty tall among the world’s best golfers.

For the second straight year, Scheffler shot a 69. Last year at Oakmont, that was 1-over par, good for an eighth-place tie after the rain-delayed first round. This year at par-72 Erin Hills Golf Course, Scheffler’s 69 translates to 3-under and an 11th-place tie.

But while national golf writers clamored around Highland Park High product and Texas senior-to-be Scheffler to ask about his round, Chip Shots waited in the wings to get the local kid alone and ask a pressing question.
