Whether Ash has the job alone remains to be seen. Herman is familiar with Ash from their time to together at Ohio State, where Ash was co-DC for their national title run. Ash also had a run as the head coach at Rutgers, where he was 8-32.
Quick thoughts:
- Ash is a back to basics DC who favors 4 man fronts and simple looks. He’ll have an adjustment period to Big 12 offenses, but at least he won’t scheme fuck his own defense before the first snap.
- Herman has, thus far, demonstrated a very narrow hiring capacity limited to his small circle of coaching associates.
