Bevo’s Daily Roundup: Texas NAACP, anonymous UT students file civil rights complaint over ‘Eyes of Texas’ song

It’s college football season once again, and that means it’s also “Eyes of Texas” controversy time, too. The Texas NAACP and several anonymous Texas Longhorns students have filed a complaint through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, claiming the song creates a “hostile environment” for Black students and administrators at the university.

That’s according to the Texas Tribune’s latest report, which you can read here.

From the Tribune: “The complaint, filed Friday morning, alleges that Black students have been denied full benefits of Longhorn student life because the song is an official part of the university, ‘despite its racially offensive origin, context and meaning.
