Austin will wait till 2016 to stage its first bowl game

Austin will not host a college football bowl game this year but will wait a year and try to stage the city’s first bowl game in December 2016, the executive director of the Austin Sports Commission told the American-Statesman on Tuesday.

On Monday, there was a four-hour meeting between Lance Aldridge of the sports commission, Randy Cohen of TicketCity and members of the locally based student housing developer American Campus Communities. They all “came to the conclusion with this short a time frame and so little lead time that it’d be best to wait and launch next year,” Aldridge said.
