Poetry helped Imani Boyette overcome a turbulent past and her scholarship paved the way to a bright future.
"I was the epitome of a geek," Imani Boyette said, recalling her high school years. "I was a geek, nerd, whatever you want to call it, but that was me. I was a theater kid. I did all the plays. I sang in the school talent show – even had my own website. I was anti-sports, and then I realized none of those things weren't going to pay for my education.
