Texas Football Recruiting: Longhorns In Race For Top In-State Safeties

The state of Texas is home to the top three safeties in the country — Brandon Jones, Eric Monroe and Deontay Anderson — and while all three are considering the Texas Longhorns, they say they plan to go to different schools.

“Brandon is my best friend,” Anderson said via 247sports. “I talk to him all the time. Me and Eric are really cool. We talk about it a lot. We talk about going to different schools. We as friend just say what’s best for us. If we go to one school, we don’t want to see the other get screwed and mess up our friendship. We know it’s just business, but it just depends.”

Monroe reportedly has the Longhorns in his top three, while Jones loved his trip to Austin over the weekend and Anderson said Texas is very much in it. The trio are also considering Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M, though it appears no school will get more than one of the coveted recruits.

“(The recruiting process) is crazy,” Anderson said. “It’s fun, but it’s stressful, too. You want to pick the right school. But you don’t want to do it too late or do it too early. I just have to enjoy it and take it slow.”
