Struggling With QB Depth, The Texas Longhorns Have Turned To An Intramural Star

Charlie Strong knew this wasn't going to be easy.

Making culture changes is one thing (and it looks like there's progress being made), but Strong's job certainly got more complicated when starting QB David Ash - after missing most of 2013 with concussion symptoms - started feeling dizzy and light-headed after the Longhorns' season opener against North Texas.

Ash is now out indefinitely, and the prevailing wisdom says his football career should be over. Sophomore Tyrone Swoopes has been named the starter in his absence, and the other QBs on the roster have all effectively been promoted. There isn't a whole lot of depth at the position behind Swoopes, though - partly thanks to Mack Brown's recent lack of success recruiting quarterbacks, the Longhorns had just one recruited player and two walk-ons left (one of those two, Dylan Haines, was recently awarded a scholarship).

Jarrod Heard is an option - the four-star dual-threat QB was highly-touted out of high school, but he's still a raw talent who Strong wants to red-shirt.

To help fix the situation, the Longhorns targeted a kid named Jimmy Greenwood. Greenwood, a fraternity member who apparently drew some attention playing intramural ball, is a former high school star player for Kinkaid HS in Houston. His pretty-solid-if-you-squint highlights are below:

There's some controversy over whether or not the Longhorns reached out to Greenwood, or if he initiated the process...but either way, he's headed for a roster spot.

If you've ever watched a movie ever, you know how this is gonna end: Swoopes and the walk-ons all go down with injuries right before the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, and Greenwood has to come in and scrap his way to a 52-49 win. Disney might as well buy the rights now.
