Was A&M's hiring of Mike Elko as defensive coordinator the best assistant hire of the offseason?
Baby: One could definitely make the case for Elko being the top offseason hire in college football. Athlon Sports definitely did, and it makes sense given Elko's stature before he came to A&M from Notre Dame. What makes the distinction even more impressive is that Elko was a fall-back option after the Aggies missed out on LSU's Dave Aranda, who is one of the most highly regarded coordinators in the country.
