Why the retention of defensive coordinator Mike Elko was Texas A&M's biggest offseason accomplishment

The way Jimbo Fisher answered a question last week, it was almost as if he was reluctant to divulge why Mike Elko is good at his job.

When the Texas A&M coach was asked about his defensive coordinator, he initially delivered a short response.

"Coached real well," Fisher said last week during a news conference in College Station.

But the secret has been out for a while: Elko is pretty good at his job. So good, in fact, he has worked at three different schools over the last three years. Each job paid more than the previous one.
