Update: Ericka Downey, the Oklahoma mother of two and wife of Northeastern State University basketball coach Mark Downey, told The Dallas Morning News that she received confirmation Thursday from the Mayo Clinic that she will be able to donate one of her kidneys to Billy Gillispie.
Downey also said she texted the good news to Gillispie. She said a surgery date will be scheduled after Gillispie reaches out to his Mayo Clinic physician and surgical team.
Downey flew to Minnesota on Sunday and underwent testing and consultation with physicians on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before flying to San Antonio to join her family for Final Four festivities.
