One of the biggest improvements from the Texas A&M football team under Jimbo Fisher was the defense. In 2018, it was a much more respectable unit as they finished as one of the best run defenses, one of the best at rushing the passer, and one of the best at getting off the field on third down.
Mike Elko, who assumed the role of defensive coordinator after John Chavis’ unsuccessful tenure, was a God send. Most Aggies felt Chavis would be able to take the defense, which was full of NFL talent, to the next level. That was not the case.
