As the bus rolled down an Atlanta highway one late May afternoon, one of the most polarizing figures in Texas high school football sat in a front-row seat and scrolled through messages on his phone.
One came from Georgia Tech's football staff. It was urgent. The coaches were in a rush.
But he figured his team's lateness wouldn't matter.
"As soon as they see us," he said as the bus continued toward campus, "they're not going to want to go home. They're going to want to go right back to their boards."
That's how the mission transitioned from simple to complex.
