With the the Commodores ahead by one point and 15 seconds remaining, Matthew Fisher-Davis fouled Northwestern guard Bryant McIntosh at midcourt. McIntosh would hit both free throws to give Northwestern the lead. A Riley LaChance three point shot would clang off the rim and the game was over.
In their first NCAA Tournament trip ever, the Wildcats are 1-0. They’ll get to enjoy that undefeated feeling for a day before their Round of 32 game against 1-Seed Gonzaga.
For Vanderbilt it was yet another unexplanable NCAA Tournament loss. The Commodore were bounced last year in the first four.
