Saturday’s results in the SEC drove home the point that the league, other than the top two teams, is mediocre. But results elsewhere over the weekend drove home the point that despite the league’s rampant mediocrity, those top two teams are well-positioned when it comes to the College Football Playoff.
The first CFP rankings of the season don’t come out until October 31, but it seems all but certain that Alabama and Georgia will be unbeaten and in the top four of those standings. And after watching Auburn wither and fade away against LSU, it seems all but certain that Alabama and Georgia will win their respective SEC divisions and be unbeaten when they meet December 2 in the SEC championship game.
