SMU quarterback Matt Davis, who began his career at Texas A&M but transferred instead of sitting behind Johnny Manziel, declared for the 2017 NFL draft Wednesday. He entered the draft than seek a sixth season of eligibility.

After missing the majority of the 2016 season with a torn ACL suffered in the season-opening win over North Texas, Davis reportedly applied for a sixth year of eligibility earlier this year.
