A tale of kidney stones, Jerry World and compassion from the Cotton Bowl

COLLEGE STATION – I’ve flipped off a jet ski and fractured my skull and ruptured my membrane (lesson: those things need helmets, because while water is “soft,” jet skis aren’t). I’ve broken a foot playing basketball and broken an arm playing basketball, and been jumped by three ne’er-do-wells and beat senseless (you guessed it, playing basketball).

I remember very little from that night about 20 years ago at Oak Ridge Baptist Church (yes, I got beat up and concussed playing basketball in a church gym – good times).

I had heart surgery when I was 12, when they cracked open my ribs from the backside to get to the ticker.
