Zhang Shuai had never before been past the first round of Wimbledon, but this fortnight the Chinese is through to the fourth round, following up her straight-set victories over Caroline Garcia and Yanina Wickmayer with a convincing 6-4 6-2 triumph over Caroline Wozniacki.
The 14th-seeded Wozniacki opened the third-round match with a 4-0 40-15 lead, having two break points to go 5-0 up, but Zhang then won 14 out of the next 12 games, as her aggressive game started producing results. From 0-4 Zhang raced to 6-4 in 25 minutes, benefiting from Wozniacki’s horrible break point conversion.
