In the first quarterfinal on Friday at the Rogers Cup, Caroline Wozniacki recorded an epic victory over Karolina Pliskova and earned her first win over a world number one in a spectacular fashion.
The sixth-seeded Wozniacki was 5-1 down in the first set and 4-2 down in the third but came back to defeat Pliskova in almost three hours, after multiple rain delays, 7-5 6-7(5) 6-4. In as many as 222 points, Wozniacki recorded just 15 unforced errors and she even hit more aces than the ace-machine Pliskova, eight to five.
“Almost every tournament I’ve played this year there has been a rain delay, so at this point I just have to laugh because I feel like it is following me,” said Wozniacki, who then added that wet weather must be bringing her luck as she’s had success at all her rain-affected tournaments this year.
