Wozniacki and Serena win their first doubles match together in Auckland

Friends Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams victoriously opened their much-talked-about doubles campaign at the 2020 ASB Classic in Auckland, beating Japan’s Nao Hibino and Makoto Ninomiya 6-2 6-4 in the first round on Monday. It’s the Dane’s first doubles victory on the WTA Tour since Copenhagen in 2011.

Did you know? The 29-year-old Wozniacki is the only WTA player who has played doubles with both Serena and Venus Williams. To make the story even better, early into her life as a pro, in 2008, Caroline teamed up with Venus and won the doubles title at the Hong Kong exhibition (then called the JB Group Classic), beating Elena Dementieva and Michelle Larcher de Brito in the final.
