Wimbledon 2016: Venus Williams beats Yaroslava Shvedova to reach semi-finals

Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber was the first woman through to the Wimbledon semi-finals with a straight-sets win over Simona Halep.

The German, seeded fourth, beat Romania's fifth seed 7-5 7-6 (7-2) on Centre Court to reach the last four for the second time.

Kerber will play seven-time champion Venus Williams or Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova in the semi-finals.

Serena Williams plays Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova later on Tuesday.

Slovakian 19th seed Dominika Cubulkova and unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina complete the quarter-final line-up.
