After an energy-sapping first round, Heather Watson struggled to gain any momentum in the first set of her second round against Elina Svitolina and was playing catch-up from the moment she lost her serve, eventually losing the set 6-3 to the Ukrainian.
Not fazed by the first set, Team GB star Watson showed great character as she stormed back and took the second set 6-1. The game was delicately poised as the players headed into the final set looking to gain the initiative.
The opening exchanges of the final set were cagey, but Svitolina broke Watson at 3-2, kept her composure and ensured she served out the match 6-3.
