Victoria Azarenka of Belarus speaks out against the war in Ukraine

Former world No.1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus expressed her sadness over the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine in a social media post, as her country is an ally of the war’s initiator.

A day after Russian and Belarusian players were expelled from International Tennis Federation team competitions and restricted from playing under their country’s flag at tournaments, the two-time Grand Slam champion Azarenka voices her sympathy with Ukrainian people:

I am devastated by the actions that have taken place over the last several days against and in Ukraine. It’s heartbreaking to see how many innocent people have been affected and continue to be affected by such violence.
