Tommy Robredo Replaces David Ferrer in Spain's Davis Cup Tie

MADRID — Spain says Tommy Robredo has replaced David Ferrer in its Davis Cup team that will travel to Vladivostok to play Russia in a Europe-Africa zone second-round tie next week.

Captain Conchita Martinez made the decision after seventh-ranked Ferrer underwent a medical checkup on the elbow injury which forced him to miss Wimbledon.

In a statement, Martinez thanked Ferrer for "his desire at all times to help the team," and wished him a speedy recovery.

Ferrer has not played for Spain since 2012.

Martinez also said Jaume Antoni Munar replaced Daniel Gimeno as the fifth player in the team.
