Second-seeded Simona Halep beat Victoria Azarenka in three sets to reach her first U.S. Open semifinal.
Halep won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 on Wednesday in a match delayed 1 hour, 25 minutes by rain early in the final set.
The 23-year-old Romanian had 40 winners to 19 unforced errors, while Azarenka had 38 winners to 42 unforced errors. Azarenka played the big points better for most of the match, though, converting all five of her break-point chances while Halep was just 6 for 19.
