Svitolina races to Rogers Cup triumph, Wozniacki’s title drought continues

Elina Svitolina blasted past Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-0 in the Rogers Cup final, extending the Dane’s losing record in the 2017 WTA finals to 0-6, having previously also beaten her in the concluding match of this year’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

In the first set, the fifth-seeded Svitolina twice failed to consolidate her lead after breaking Wozniacki’s serve, namely at 2-1 and 4-3, but the Ukrainian capitalized on her 5-4 advantage, holding serve in the following game to win the set in which both players committed more unforced errors than winners, with Svitolina’s negative differential being just two points better than her opponent’s.
