Halep was ousted by the former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic, 7-6 (2), 6-2, while Muguruza lost to Elina Svitolina, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Fourth-seeded Petra Kvitova fell to Madison Brengle, 0-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3.
