Sports Briefing | Tennis: Belgium Leads Canada at Davis Cup

Steve Darcis and David Goffin gave Belgium a 2-0 lead over Canada with singles victories at the Davis Cup, one of four quarterfinal matches held Friday.

Darcis beat Frank Dancevic, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, 6-3, in the opener in Ostend, Belgium, and Goffin defeated Filip Peliwo, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Andy Murray evened Britain’s quarterfinal against France at 1-1 by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-5, 7-6 (10), 6-2, at Queen’s Club in London. Earlier, James Ward had lost to Gilles Simon, 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.

Aleksandr Nedovyesov beat Nick Kyrgios, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 6-4, to give Kazakhstan a 2-0 lead over host Australia in Darwin.
