Rome PHOTOS: Third-round action, defending champ Svitolina survives first-set bagel

In Thursday’s third-round action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, defending champion Elina Svitolina recovered from a first-set bagel to beat Daria Kasatkina and make the quarterfinals. Angelique Kerber lost just two games in victory over Maria Sakkari, Caroline Garcia progressed past Sloane Stephens, Anett Kontaveit eliminated Venus Williams (stay tuned, I’ll present Venus’ new EleVen Sprint collection on Monday), and Maria Sharapova defeated Daria Gavrilova in straight sets.

Jelena Ostapenko was successful in both singles and doubles, defeating Johanna Konta in three sets to reach the final eight in singles and winning the second round in doubles together with Sorana Cirstea against Svetlana Kuznetsova and Karolina Pliskova, a match which produced many lovely photos.
