Roger Federer Decides to Skip the French Open

Roger Federer said he will not play in the French Open this month and instead will prepare to play on grass and hard courts later this season.

Federer announced the decision in a post on his website on Monday.

Federer, 35, was the surprise winner of the year’s first major tournament, the Australian Open, collecting his 18th Grand Slam singles title. He went on to capture titles in Indian Wells, Calif., and Miami. After winning in Miami in early April, he said he would skip much of the approaching European clay-court season.
