The first round of the 2016 Australian Open wrapped up on Tuesday as two big names have been added to the ever-growing list of notable early casualities in Melbourne Park.
While Germany’s Angelique Kerber was able to fight off a looming first-round loss against Misaki Doi, Venus Williams & Simona Halep were less sucessful. While Williams lost to young Briton Johanna Konta, Halep was blasted off the court in straight sets by China’s Zhang Shuai as the 26-year old was able to win her first ever Grand Slam main draw match.
