Angelique Kerber’s challenging start into the 2017 season continued on Tuesday as the world #1 lost her second-round match at the 2017 Apia International in Sydney, making an unexpectedly early exit from the tournament.
Playing 19 year-old Russian talent Daria Kasatkina, Kerber lost a tight first-set tie break, unable to swing the match around, allowing the promising young talent her first-ever win over a #1 player.
The tournament’s second-seed fared much better as Agniezska Radwanska won her match against Christina McHale in straight sets, joining Eugenie Bouchard and Anastasia Pavluychenkova.
