Novak Djokovic eases past Jarkko Nieminen at Wimbledon in straight sets

Novak Djokovic did no more than he had to in beating Jarkko Nieminen in an hour and 32 minutes in his second match of the fortnight, and there is no compelling case to be made that Bernard Tomic can stop the best player in the world in the next round.

The defending champion embraced Nieminen warmly at the net after winning 6-4, 6-2, 6-3, and said courtside: “It’s his last Wimbledon so I just congratulated him for a terrific career. He’s a very, very nice guy off the court, a fighter on the court. It was a pleasure to be his last opponent at Wimbledon.
