Monica Seles melts hearts with childhood tennis photo

“TBT this photo brings back happy childhood memories,” said Monica Seles on Twitter today and caused a stir of heartwarming comments.

Monica Seles won her first tournament at the age of nine, even though she didn’t even know the tennis scoring system at the time. When she was 12, she moved from Yugoslavia to Florida, USA, where she enrolled at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

The former world No.1 Seles turned pro at the young age of 15, in 1989. The peak of her career were years 1991 and 1992, during which she won six of her nine Grand Slam titles, but after the on-court stabbing in April 1993 in Hamburg, Germany, her career was never the same again.
