In her announcement, Keys conveyed her struggles with a shoulder injury that have prompted her medical team to advise against participating in the prestigious tournament. The two-time Australian Open semifinalist posted on social media:

Unfortunately I’ve been struggling with a shoulder injury and have been advised by my medical staff to withdraw from the Australian Open this year.
