IMG finds a solution: Stanford WTA tournament moves to San Jose

After being kicked out of the Stanford University venue, the longest-running women’s-only tournament in the world, owned and operated by IMG, found a new home in California’s Bay Area — the Bank of the West Classic will now be the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic and it will take place at San Jose State University.

After more than two decades in Stanford, as of this season, the WTA Premier-level tournament will be held at the new venue, with Mubadala Investment Company being its new title sponsor.

“IMG has a long-standing global relationship with Mubadala and we’re looking forward to leveraging their expertise in technology and innovation to raise the entertainment value at this event for our fans,” said WME and IMG Co-President Mark Shapiro.
