Great Britain gets new WTA player under its flag

Japan-born WTA world No.206 Yuriko Lily Miyazaki, 26, has decided to represent Great Britain from now on.

As we know from Naomi Osaka’s case, Japanese citizens are not allowed to have dual citizenship. Just before turning 22, the four-time Grand Slam champion made a difficult decision to choose the passport of the country she was born in, even though she spent most of her life in the United States. By contrast, her fellow Japanese Miyazaki opted to replace her Japanese citizenship with British, having lived in Great Britain since her childhood.

Miyazaki will become the seventh-ranked British woman and will be eligible to represent Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup.
