In a match between first-time Grand Slam finalists, seed No.17 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan recovered from a set down to beat third seed Ons Jabeur of Tunisia 3-6 6-2 6-2 and become an unexpected champion at this year’s Wimbledon.
Assisted by Rybakina’s unforced errors, Jabeur eased through the first set of the championship match. The Tunisian consolidated her first break with a love hold for a 3-1 lead and finished the set by winning two consecutive games in which she didn’t lose a single point.
The world No.23 Rybakina broke Jabeur’s serve in the opening game of the second set.
