During the rain-affected second-round action at the Western & Southern Open on Wednesday, seventh seed and defending champion Garbine Muguruza suffered a surprise defeat by Lesia Tsurenko, while world No.1 Simona Halep‘s match against Ajla Tomljanovic was halted by storm at 4-6 6-3 3-3 (at the time of my publishing of this gallery, Halep has finished the match, winning the third set 6-3).
In other second-round matches, third-seeded Sloane Stephens beat Tatjana Maria and set up a meeting with 15th seed Elise Mertens, the winner over qualifier Rebecca Patterson.
