The highlight of this Tuesday at the China Open were second-round victories of Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep, who have set up a rerun of their recent US Open first-round thriller in which the Russian prevailed, improving her head-to-head record against the Romanian to 7-0.
The second-seeded Halep advanced to the third round in Beijing when Magdalena Rybarikova retired ill in the second set, while wildcard Sharapova outlasted Ekaterina Makarova 6-4 4-6 6-1.
