Beck Beats Bacsinszky to Draw Germany Level 2-2 in Fed Cup

LEIPZIG, Germany — Annika Beck defeated Timea Bacsinszky to pull Germany level with Switzerland 2-2 in their Fed Cup first-round tie after Belinda Bencic had beaten Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber on Sunday.

The 39th-ranked Beck won 7-5, 6-4 in two hours, seven minutes on her Fed Cup debut to ensure the tie will be decided with the doubles rubber.

Germany's Andrea Petkovic and Anna-Lena Groenefeld were playing against Bencic and Australian Open doubles champion Martina Hingis. Hingis won with Sania Mirza in Melbourne.

Bencic earlier upset Kerber 7-6 (4), 6-3 to give Switzerland a 2-1 lead.
