Australian Open 2018: Caroline Wozniacki beats Elise Mertens to reach final

Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki closed in on a first Grand Slam title with victory over Belgian Elise Mertens in the Australian Open semi-finals.

The 27-year-old, seeded second, saw off the world number 37 with a 6-3 7-6 (7-2) victory in Melbourne.

Wozniacki is through to her third major final, and will face top seed Simona Halep or 2016 winner Angelique Kerber.

Should Kerber win the second semi-final, Wozniacki will overtake Halep as the new world number one.
