Andy Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion and the No. 2 men’s player in the world, withdrew from the United States Open on Saturday. He became the latest in a string of prominent players who have pulled out of the event, which begins on Monday.
Murray has been suffering from a hip injury since the French Open, he said, and it grew more acute at Wimbledon.
“I did pretty much everything that I could to get myself ready here and took a number of weeks off after Wimbledon,” he said. “I obviously spoke to a lot of hip specialists.
