The American sporting calendar is an annual heaving mass of dates and expectations with 2020 sure to be yet another year of emotion, controversy and despair - for some. Here are five events that any American sporting enthusiast should look forward to.
The Super Bowl
Never mind an American event, the Super Bowl is a worldwide showpiece celebration. Sunday will be the 54th Super Bowl; featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers this year at Miami Gardens, Florida. Expect fireworks, entertainment and talent as the 100th NFL season comes to a close.
The New England Patriots are reigning champions and Miami should be treated to a spectacle in the 65,000-capacity Hard Rock Stadium.
Masters Golf
One of the most prestigious and important events in the men’s professional golfing calendar, the Masters is an incredibly tough and exciting competition which sees the winner don the victorious green jersey.
Taking place in the first week of April at the Augusta National Golf Club, the Masters is the first port of call for any golfing enthusiast. Tiger Woods is the current champion, belying his 14-1 outsider tag in 2019 to triumph over favorite Rory McIlroy.
Triple Crown Horse Racing
Three races in five weeks make up the Triple Crown. From the Kentucky Derby to the Preakness Stakes and then the Belmont Stakes, American horse racing is at its peak in May and June of 2020.

With a prize money of $57 million in 2019, viewing figures and attendance records were broken as people flocked to American tennis’ most prestigious event.
