Trey Smith is ‘a tone-setter’ and his absence will hurt Tennessee’s offense

Before delving into Tennessee offensive lineman Trey Smith’s unspecified medical condition, let me be real clear: His health is the most important thing. Also, I have no reason to believe he has committed any wrongdoing that is keeping him off the team.

Smith, who is arguably Tennessee’s best player, will not participate in at least a portion of spring practice. Certainly, that’s not good for Smith nor the Vols.

Smith was the bright spot in a historically bad season in 2017. He was a second-team All-SEC pick and a Freshman All-American last season, when the Vols went 4-8.
