To be blunt, it was a disastrous weekend for Tennessee on the recruiting front. Ty Simpson kicked things off on Friday afternoon by committing to Alabama over the home-state Volunteers. Josh Heupel’s assumed No. 2 target Sam Horn then committed to Missouri on Sunday night.
Heupel faced a near impossible task with Simpson after the five-star quarterback laid out a commitment timeline that gave him under a month to establish a relationship. Horn was always viewed as the second option for Tennessee, and perhaps that was a turn off for him.
