Tennessee football: Vols stock report following Week Nine of 2019

If you apply traditional economic indicators to Tennessee football, the Vols are surging out of a slump faster than the U.S. economy surged out of a depression once World War II began. It’s been that type of week for them, and quite honestly, they’ve been on an upward trend ever since coming off of their bye.

Sure, there were blowout losses to the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs. But they showed signs of life at times in both. Now they have withstood injuries at quarterback and numerous mistakes in their other games to get to 3-5 and make a bowl game within reach, which seemed impossible after an 0-2 start and two losses to Group of Five programs at home.
